Al-Qari: Shuddah:

When a consonant occurs twice without a vowel sound in between, it is written once only and the sign of shuddah is placed over it. This sign is also called tashdid. The letter with shuddah must be pronounced twice; the first one always with sukuun and second one with vowel sounds of either fatha, kasra or dhummah.

The screen shot below deals with Shuddah. Examples are given with other vowels to see how it effects the sounds. As always in Al-Qari, sounds of all example accompany the lessons.

And as you may notice Almost all examples in Al-Qari are derived from the last short Makki surahs which most people memorize for salat to facilitate the learning process.

Surah Ayah
Something to Ask...
O Allah!
I seek refuge in You from the evils of my hearing, the evils of my seeing, the evils of my tongue; the evils of my heart and the evils of passions.
