Comment:The article was very informative on past history. I am saddened by the US governments actions and this war won't be a quick and easy victory as some may think. This is a wake up call to the Muslims around the world and any other persons who believe in true freedom. Who will be the next victims?

Comment:Ron Theriot -- the article refrenced pre-war literacy which was in the 90%+ range I believe.. The article was very informative. I wish previous poster "salim mansur khalid," would NOT blame all of us for the crimes of our leader

Comment:Salam Alaykum brothers and Sisters all over the world. The war in Iraq is an unfortunate thing that would happen to an Islamic State this Millennium. Since there is little or nothing anybody can do about it most unfortunately for those of us from the developing nation. Well as Muslims may we continue to pray for the people of Iraq for a Spiritual upliftment. I believe that if one dies for defending one's nation, it is a well deserved death.
Maa salam.

Comment:we should not be there
this war was wrong
There will not be a speedy exit however. To suggest otherwise presupposes that we are there for the stated reason of removing Saddam Hussein. That is a lie. We are there for the oil. That is the truth. Wake up and "smell the coffee".

Comment:This article brings to light some facinating historical facts about Iraq and identifies some of the major problems facing its "liberators." However, 9 days into the war, I don't share the authors hope in a bright future if the allies make a speedy exit. In fact, I think there will be major problems unifying the Iraqi people behind one leader. After all, as this article points out, it has always been one of the most difficult countries to rule.

Comment:Iraq is the place where Muslims experianced the rise and fall of the Muslim Khilafah. May Allah give Muslims taufeeque to go back to the traditions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the four Khulafa-i-Rashideen.

Comment:The article stated that Iraq was the first muslim country to attain a 100% literacy rate. Estimated 1995 figures show a total literacy rate of 58% while men are 70.7% and women are 45%. (world atlas Mapquest)
