McDonald's Corporate Responsibility &
American Muslims' Civic Responsibility

In Conclusion

  • We sincerely thank McDonald's for this opportunity to discuss Halal issues.
  • We understand that McDonald's has agreed that Muslim groups should participate in the cy pres grant process.
  • We request the following:
    • Announce on its website the sources of all ingredients such as animal (beef, chicken or pork), vegetable, or synthetic.
    • Provide a color-coded sheet of lowCal, Vegetarian, Kosher, and Halal items, next to each cash register for sales person scan before answering consumer’s query.
    • Recognize Halal as a unique set of dietary guidance followed by Muslims.
    • Offer Halal items in 10 major cosmopolitan areas of the USA.
    • Enhance the Consumer Advisory board as proposed

[This presentation was given at McDonald's Corporate Headquarters by Abdul Malik Mujahid on behalf of Muslims on August 5, 2002. We never received a formal response to our suggestions. However, McDonald's opposed our attorney's request to treat Muslims and Halal as a distinct dietary group for the purpose of cy pres fund distribution as they are treating other groups, instead of giving out a lesser amount from funds allocated for Vegetarian groups. The Judge agreed with McDonald's position. Now a few vegetarians have filed an appeal against this decision to give cy pres funds to Muslims from the vegetarian allocation. A few Muslims have also filed appeal on the same basis.]

Comment: RIGHT ON!!! Muslims should be treated just as other groups-Jews, Hindus, Veg., etc. are treated and not any different. We all as Muslims have to stand up for what is right and what is not. May Allah bless you all & may the truth prevail. your Sister in Islam

Comment: Excellent presentation!! If MacDonald's is not listeing to Muslims why can't we start and run our own fast food chain. I believe we can and we should. Some institute like Soundvision has to take initiative.

Comment: Al-Salaam-u-Alaikum, I am glad to see such effort being done by Muslims. Brothers took the right approach in addressing this issue and took true facts and figures, rather burning down a resturant. May Allah swt bless this work and Inshallah some thing positive will come out. We have to show everyone, that Muslims are not the nation of emotions, but they are people of fact, believe, and respect. W'salaam.

Surah Ayah
Something to Ask...
My Rubb,
I beg of you good that lies in this night and good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that lies in this night and from the evil of that which follows it. My Rubb! I seek refuge in You from lethargy and the misery of old age. O Allah! I seek Your Protection from the torment of Hell-fire and the punishment of the grave.
