When McDonald's Fries Became Halal
- McDonald's is not just a restaurant, it is an American icon.
- We tell with pride that McDonald's was born in Chicago while mentioning
other “greats” that emerged from Chicago such as Sears Tower architect
who was a Muslim from Bangladesh.
- Many American Muslims, while visiting a Muslim country, eagerly consume
McDonald's burgers simply because they are Halal.
- It is in this context that when the community learned that McDonald's switched
from beef fat to vegetable oil, many mosques, in trusting McDonald’s,
announced that it is now "Halal" to eat fries at McDonald's.
- It was at this point in which I first ate at McDonald's – and then
Harash Bharti told us of this nightmare.
