Will this be your last Ramadan? Plan for it; Nusayba bint Ka’ab, Muslim Woman Warrior

In this newsletter

Assalamu alaikum:

Muhammad Ali, the world’s most famous Muslim American, died about 72 hours before the start of Ramadan 2016. This reminds us not only that death is always near, but that we can never take our opportunities to do good while we are alive for granted. This is why Muslims are advised to make this Dua in the months preceding the month of fasting:

Allahumma Ballighna Ramadan

Oh Allah, let us reach the month of Ramadan.

For those of us who will be blessed to reach it and complete it, the key to making the most of Ramadan is planning. And there is much to plan to make Ramadan smoother and more beneficial for us personally, as well as for our loved ones. Muhammad Ali left a tremendous mark on the world, and his faith was key to it - so was planning

As a Muslim, he was inspired by the example of Prophet Muhammad, God’s peace and blessings be upon him, as well well as the women and men who surrounded him. These incredible people included people like Nusaybah bint Ka’ab, a warrior who physically defended the Prophet in the Battle of Uhud, and fought even at age 60.

May we learn about and emulate Nusaybah, may God be pleased with her, as well as countless other Muslim women who left their mark on our history and the world.

Peace,

Nusaybah bint Ka’ab: The First Woman Warrior

March is Women’s History Month, and for the whole of the month, there will be a focus on both historic and contemporary “sheroes.” Islamic history is filled with women of great courage, skills, and insights who have made positive contributions on a variety of fronts. One great example is Nusaybah bint Ka’ab.

13 Things To Do One Month Before Ramadan
While a month may seem like ample time to get things ready for Ramadan, many of us fall into the “planning fallacy”, not realizing that, in reality, tasks often take longer than we estimate. Here are some things you can take care of now.

The $1 A Day Ramadan Challenge

This Ramadan I invite you to take the dollar a day Ramadan challenge. I have done it for the last couple of years and count it as a true blessing of Ramadan. The idea is simple. You reduce the ramadan food and drink consumption at Suhoor and Iftar times to one dollar.
