Muharram is a significant and important month. Muharram itself is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is often met with passing interest by the Muslim community as simply a day to reflect and change the date on the calendar.
Ramadan is the month of Mercy. Surely Allah as Al-Rahman bestows His abundant benevolence, and as Al-Raheem His overflowing kindness upon the believers who fast with sincerity and pure intention during this month.
Sha’ban is the eight month on the Islamic calendar. Although it is not classified as one of the sacred months, it has both spiritual and historic prominence that is often not reflected upon by the collective Ummah.
While Ramadan is a special time, there are ways to incorporate the blessings of fasting on regular basis. While one can fast any time of the year, there are days specifically mentioned that carry more reward should one partake in fasting.
Over one billion people worldwide live on $1 a day on ramadan food. And that includes everything not just food. Those of us blessed to enjoy a table full of a variety of foods when we break our fasts perhaps don’t consider this.
Just like we make preparations well in advance when a favorite guest is coming, we, as mothers, have to prepare in advance for Ramadan, so that we don’t waste time during the precious month.
Fasting is a special act of worship which is only between humans and God since no one else knows for sure if this person is actually fasting. It has both spiritual and medical benfits.
