Star and Crescent Rice Crispy Treats

Ingredients:

  • 10 oz regular sized Halal marshmallows
  • 5 cups rice krispy cereal
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • approx. 1/2 cup melting chocolate wafers
  • sprinkles
  • Star Cookie Cutter
  • Crescent Moon Cookie Cutter
  • Silicon Spatula
  • Cookie sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • 9x13 Pan
  1. Melt the butter in a large nonstick pot on low heat. You don't want any browning, so keep stirring. 
  2. Once the butter is melted, add the marshmallows to the pot and stir continuously until fully melted.  By constantly stirring this keeps the mixture from browning or getting sticky.  If it you see browning – immediately remove from heat.  
  3. When the marshmallows are melted and creamy, remove the pot from the heat.
  4. Add the rice crispy cereal.  Stir in the cereal. Keep stirring with a silicon spatula until all the cereal mixture is covered in the marshmallow goo. 
  5. Empty the pot mixture onto a greased 9"x13" pan and 
  6. Use a piece of parchment paper to press down and flatten the mixture evenly.  
  7. Once the mixture is flattened and still a bit warm, use the cookie cutters to cut out the shape.  Press firmly so that the cutter goes completely through.  
    • Tip: you can also use a pizza cutter to make shapes.  
  8. Place the cut shapes on a sheet of wax paper to set. Continue to cut out the shapes until you’ve finished the tray. 
  9. Gather the scraps and press together to cut out more shapes. Continue to do so until you’ve used up as much of the mixture as possible.
    • Tip:  When all you have left is scraps too small you can still form small crescent by hand by rolling and then bending into a c shaped.  
    • Another option: Roll small scraps into bite size balls for a quick snack
  10. Sprinkle toppings and let the shapes cool until ready to break fast (or if using for dessert until after dinner)
    • Tip.  Cover and store in airtight container

To involve the kids – allow them to choose and place the toppings for the treats.  They can sprinkle, dust with powdered sugar or even drizzle chocolate or caramel.  They can also take candy gum drops or a chocolate chip and press in the center.  BE CREATIVE and Enjoy.
