Are you one of those people who rarely touches the Quran? Or do you read daily, but don't find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Quran.
1. Before you touch it, check your heart
The key to really benefiting from the Quran is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah's book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was described by his wife as a "walking Quran": in other words, he didn't just read and recite the Quran, he lived it.
2. Do your Wudu (ablution)
Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you you're not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.
3. Read only 5 minutes everyday
Too often, we think we should read Quran for at least one whole hour. If you aren't in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become ten, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!
4. Make sure you understand what you've read
Five minutes of reading the Quran in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you're reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Quran in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you've read that day .
5. Remember, the Quran is more interactive than a CD
In an age of "interactive" CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Quran is not like that. Remember that when you read Quran, you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.
6. Don't just read, listen too
There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Quran, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car's CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Quran reading, not as a replacement for it.
7. Make Dua (supplication)
Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Quran. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

Assalamu AlaikumDear brothers and sisters, your are really doing a wonderful job. If all muslim towns have one website like yours and do the dawa and teaching Holy Qur'an and Sunnah, Islamhic History etc to muslim male and female and non muslims as well, that will be a tremendous step towards earning Allah's Help and Blessings. We actually neglect Qur'an and may Allah -Our Creator and Lord of the Worlds, pardon us for this horrible crime. The situation with the people now can be explained by an example like this one: Suppose you are the boss and you are calling out your servant to do a job, but he is not responding even though he is present in front of you and he is involved himself doing something else, how can you tolerate such a servant? We humans eat from Allah, we get water from the sky from Himself, but people deny and neglect His Words (Holy Qur'an) and spend time listening to TV Chats and words, speeches of human beings, false leaders / useless songs etc. Qur'an is the best song and and guidance and even Jinns and Angels come to listen to the recitation. Moreover, the devils are banned by Allah from listening to the Holy Qur'an. They run away from the recitation. Moreover i have noticed a peculiar thing among muslims, a group known as tabighi jamath say they call people to Allah, but in the very house of Allah (that is Mosques), they open a book called "fazail e Amal" the virtues of deeds and neglect the reading of Tafsir of Holy Qur'an. What are the virtues of Holy Qur'an? None knows better than Allah who gave it. So how come, a people claim that they are bringing people closer to Allah and His Zikr or remembrance? If you love Allah you will try to read and understand His Words (Holy Qur'an) because there is no other book that can surpass this. Also, these people claim Tafsir and Translations are for scholars and not for common masses to whom they are trying to educate through this book Fazail e Amal. This is a nasty claim. All the Sahabis were ignorant about religion until Prophet Mohammad (S) taught them by using Allah's Holy words from the Holy Qur'an. All the day and every now and then they keep reading this book in their gatherings and have made complusory for all who go in their jamath to read this at home or mosques. So it has now got such an important place in their hearts that it is quite difficult to convince them that we must start from the Holy Qur'an and read other authentic hadith books like Bukhari, Muslim etc or the books based on these Hadiths without false stories and hadiths that are aplenty in Fazail e Amal. Even those ulema who studied Qur'an, Bukhari Hadith etc. sit with these people and do not object to the reading of this book. Why? What ? The Holy Qur'an has become so unimportant to us? Is it not capable of guiding us to our success? That people should look towards peers and the books (like the writer of this book and the book itself-fazail a amal). Then who is wrong? Who has given the Holy Qur'an or the people who argue against Holy Qur'an's reading with tafsir and translation?Suppose when you love a song, you byheart it, you love the singer, you love the language of the song, and try to understand the lyrics of it. But why not we do the better when it is concerned with Holy Qur'an? Is there any book in the school or a college that the teachers forbid us reading with meaning and understanding it? They actually tell us to read with meaning, understand it very well so that we can prepare for exams and pass and become well aware of the education we are getting by spending so much time and money. But I don't understand what has happened to muslim community who deny the proper and the foremost place for the Holy Qur'an or the Words and Commands of Almighty Lord Allah by seeking knowledge and guidance from other books and giving importance to them that is not their due.Sahaba Kiram had Holy Qur'an with them and they knew Arabic and judged according to it. But we try to go to peers and hazrats as in the case of illiterate tablighi people (even the literate person and an alim becomes one like them after joining this jamath, quite unfortunate).so let us learn Holy Qur'an with meaning and understanding and then we can get the result that is promised by the proper application of the Holy Qur'an from Almighty Allah. So let us blame ourselves for our pitiful conditions today in any field, political, military, educational, spiritual, economical, science and tech. etc. May Allah make us uphold the Holy Qur'an's message and commands and defend it vigorously from the attack of all other man written books which try to steal the due place of Holy Qur'an in our hearts and in the different aspects of worldly life. The Blessings for this from Allah will surely be seen in this world and the afterlife. Aameen.
