Peace and Justice

It is a time of sadness, but also one of hope. Prayer is a wonderful way to heal hearts and look towards the future. In Arabic, the term Dua refers to supplication to God. Dua is a beautiful method of connecting with the Creator.

We believe that peoples and nations have the right to determine their own destiny, free from military coercion by great powers. We believe that all persons detained or prosecuted by the US government should have the same rights of due process. 

While leaders and organizations have their role to play, individuals are key to promoting a better understanding of Islam and Muslims, as well as protecting Muslims from harassment and attacks. Here are some ways you can help:

Tears, phone calls, e-mail messages, smiles, cards and flowers are how many non-Muslims across the country have expressed their regret for harassment and threats against Muslims as well as sympathy for the community since September 11.

Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was about saving people not destroying people. He did not hate even his worse enemies. The desire to save humanity is a duty of every Muslim.

A number of churches and organizations though, are interested in doing more. They want to know how to reach out to their Muslim neighbors and friends in this difficult time. Below are some suggestions of simple things they can do to express their support for Muslim-Americans.

For Americans the feeling of security is not what it was prior to September 11, 2001.  For Muslim Americans a sense of caution and uneasiness has quickly become a constant state-of-mind.  For Muslim American women, stray glances cause thoughts of fear to emerge where comfort has previously existed.
