Islamophobia like other forms of racism and religious or ethnic intolerance, is not the problem of its victims It is a societal problem. Unless we as a nation speak out against it, educate others about it, and fight, it will continue to perpetuate.

I wish Sr. Aminah Assilmi had survived that accident the Friday morning of her death as she did the one in Chicago. But I can see her smiling, still full of plans, because whenever I met her, she had some fantastic ideas about what needed to be done for Islam in America.

A Review of the PBS documentary on the Prophet of Islam, called Muhammad, Legacy of a Prophet. Although this documentary was well into production prior to 9/11, some of the American Muslim characters who help tell Muhammad's story were filmed after the attack. 

In the wake of the war on Iraq, Muslims need to be informed, aware and pro-active when dealing with the American media. Here is a list of tips Muslims can use when dealing with the media in these critical next few weeks.

America's reaction to the torturous sexual abuse of Iraqi prisoners of war is a sign of a nation living its ideals. Although they are reacting to something extremely abhorrent and horrible, it gives me confidence in humanity and in America.

Islamophobia is today's accepted form of racism. It will require Muslims to fight hard against it. Muslims are neither solely responsible for its creation, nor will they be able to fight it on their own. It is a collective responsibility for all bridge-builders of the world.

Islamophobia, or the fear and hatred of all things relating to Islam and Muslims, is becoming mainstream and deadly. Whether it's radio talk show hosts,  columnists or extremists who promise to kill Muslim women, there is a great danger to Muslims.
